G'day everybody, happy Easter. I'm after some help identifying a Chev truck. Its an Australian Holden Plated RH drive. By the serial number on the id plate it comes up as an 1130 or 1140. What does that mean? On the side of the bonnet there is a badge that says 1100. It has a flat tray on the back with dual rear wheels which are 20inch in diameter. I read people talking about 1/2 and 3/4 ton pickups and trucks so what size would this one be. Are the bodies all the same no matter what the capacity? Can I put a tub onto the back and turn it into a ute? Thanks in advance. Ron.

I think the Canadian guys will jump in, I believe the Mapleleafs use this numbering system. I wish I was home I would go to my CDN stuff for you.

I think that Canadian GM GMC/Chevrolet model/series numbers were the same.

This Ozzie states that 1100 was a 1.5 ton truck.

The Holden "utes" were Australian made - is that correct?

It looks like Holden did not make trucks in Australia? They must have been Canadian Maple Leafs or later GM trucks with Holden model/series numbers on them?

Please keep us informed on what you find out about Holden trucks, and please show us what you do with your truck.

Hy Gibbsy, welcome, and Happy Easter right back at ya. If you could post the whole serial number that would help to pin down what you have, an "1100" series would be a 1 1/2 ton truck. A typical Canadian serial number for an "1100" series would be 11133...., for a chassis with cab with a 137" wheelbase. The "1100" series in 1951 had a g.v.w. of 11,000 lbs., hope that helps.

G'day guys, thanks for the replies. From what I am learning the trucks bought to Australia were assembled or pre assembled in Canada. They are called chevs, have chev bdges on them but the id plate under the bonnet was obviously added by holden when they arrived here. I will try attach a couple of pics and you will see our serial number doesn't break down the way yours does. cheers and thanks for the interest you have shown.

G'day guys. Thanks to tclederman for the lnks. From what I have read now the truck im looking at is in fact that. A truck. Apparently the front fenders and sheetmetal are different to the pickups which is what im wanting to build. that was what I was trying to ascertain so now im not sure this vehicle is actually what I need. obviously these trucks aren't thick on the ground down here so it wont be easy to find bits without going to great expense. I know most parts are probably available over there but im not looking to spend a whole lot of money. Thanks again.

I know this is way late but the truck you are looking for does not exist in OZ except for trucks that have been imported from the States. The 1/2 ton and the 3/4 ton were not imported because the OZ market was really looking for larger trucks for farmers and truckers.

Best bet, go to the states and buy one and ship it over. Or like I did look for 20 years and buy one from someone who did.
