What years did they paint the grills on the 42-46 chevy pickups?? I'm trying to figger out the year on a truck. thanks

What is the vehicle serial number: 1942 location & codes and 1946 location and codes

There were military trucks sold during WWII, some of which might have been sold/delivered domestically. Those most likely would have had painted grills.

Information on 1946 truck grills. It looks like all grills were chrome plated in 1946.

The old truck is settin a long way from me so it would be hard to get a vin number. I was wondering if it mite be an old 44-45 because of the painted grill.noel

there weren't any 44's or 45's, any purchased those years were from left over 41&2 parts .... all the 'brightwork' was painted until 46 because of the war, chroming materials were restricted .... for Deco series details see here and check the tech tip

Has the truck been repainted? War prod. Trucks were sold as "no shiny parts" but that simply meant that the grill started as bare metal and the stainless trim was installed prior to painting of hood and windshield frame. Other things that tell war prod. Was unground welds on bottom of a-pillar without lead (too busy throwing it at the Germans) and leather gas tank filler neck seal. If you get a sn be aware that the year code didn't change during the war. It used 42 code with an extended "month" of production. 42 would be months 1 to12. 43 would be 13 to 24. 44 is 25 to 36. And so on
