Ok, just got the heater core out of my truck. I just checked all the usual suspects, Jim Carter, Filling Station, American Classic, Truck and Car shop, and NO ONE has a heater core that looks like mine.

Any idea what this may have come out of? I'm at a loss for now...

Thanks...

Chris

Sorry, shouldn't assume that everyone read my previous post.

It's in a '57 Chevy 3100, and it's a fresh air heater.

no "fresh air heater" in 57, that's what's referred to as the deluxe heater, as you'll see in the manual I linked in your other post .... not likely to find an off the self replacement, you'll need to find a rad shop that can re-core it

For sure, like Bill said... it is referred to as "Deluxe Heater" a factory option, even though it does have a fresh air diverter under the blower housing. Re-core is the answer... as far as I'm concerned it is the one to have if your going for the stock equipment look and function.

Have you tested the core now that you have it out? Test the control valve too as it can be rebuilt and probably should be if not done already.

Filled the MC with water, plugged one outlet with my thumb and blew into the other...bingo, found the leak. Dropped it off at a local radiator shop, owner told me that he'd try to patch it, but if not, he could recore if for around $200 - $250. Yeah, I know, that sounds expensive to you guys in the south and midwest, but take whatever you'd pay and bump it up by 40%, and that's what we pay in the NE.

Hopefully I can put this to bed in the next few days and deal with my locking-up brakes (see other post).

Thanks...

200 isn't outrageous for a proper recore, the core piece itself is special order and not cheap

Its a Task Force and Blue Chip truck deluxe heater. And is painted the wrong color.

Kicking self for selling off my Taskforce trucks.
Still looking for an LCF or conventional big bolt in decent shape.

I had the same one that needed recored. The local rad shop in Richmond had a huge pile of squirreled away cores for a variety of passenger cars and trucks. One was close enough in size. Wish I could remember the model of car it was for.

At any rate, the price you were quoted wasn't bad, but I benefitted from finding a really old guy who never threw anything away. Sometimes the grungy shops hold treasures. 90 bucks since my tanks and tubes were good.

Good luck!

Jim
