My temp and fuel gauge peg out when I turn lights on, it's like abad ground but they work fine until I hit the lights. 66 gmc rewired with painless wiring, all is good but the light and gauge thing. Jeffrey.
I'm older than my truck but it's smarter than me! 66 GMC 3/4 ton fleetside 283, turbo 400.

The wires from the light switch could be going to the gauges rather than to the lights for the gauges.
The gauges are low current devices and have a good enough ground when the lights are off, but not good enough for the added current of the lights. The gauges could be grounded through the light filaments, which would dissappear when the light were on. | | |
