The Stovebolt Site Forums The Parking Lot '60-'66 Trucks Cab insulation on 61 Apache

First time on Stovebolt. I'm doing a frame off resto on my 61 Apache and can't find the tar paper like material used to insulate the cab between the gas tank and the rear of the cab. I've searched all the sources on line and do not like the offerings. I'm trying to keep the truck as original as possible. Any suggestions??

We use two layers of Fatmat, Hushmat or Peel-N-Seal, stuck to each other for the correct thickness, for the saddle cushions on the bottom of the fuel tank and under the tank straps.

Thanks. The piece I'm refering to is one whole sheet glued to the inside of the back of the cap under the rear window. Looks like thick tar paper with a diamond pattern pressed into it.

that's just what it was, if you're trying to copy the factory, the closest thing you'll find is the heavy "50#" roofing paper

The 50# roofing paper was my choice if I could not find a reproduction piece.

That insulation was part of the "Custom Comfort Option" from the factory. Boy have things come a long way from a piece of tar paper being an extra option.

Custom Comfort Option - left arm rest...right-hand sunshade...chrome cigar lighter...full six inch foam rubber seat cushion with special trim...special cab insulation...left-hand door outside key lock.

Any body know what that option cost in 1961???

The place were you pulled that information, will tell you what this R.P.O. costs.

The extra insulation can also be found, in the form of jute insulation, adhered to the underside of the dash, from the cardboard cover, to the intersection with the dash shell.

I found that description of the "Custom Comfort Option" in a sales handout... No prices are listed. I don't know were the R.P.O. prices are listed.
