I'm looking for OEM type floor mats for my 61 Apache. It has a 4 speed trans. Any suggestions?

Not sure what you are comparing these mats to, when you say "I've looked at those. Really not even close to the originals". With all due respect, I reject your observation, but good luck finding a rubber floor mat, that is closer to OEM, with regards to quality, fit & finish.

Thanks for the info.

The original floor mats in the 61 I'm restoring are different than the ones at Classic (39-021, a one piece mat)

The original mats in this 61, are two mats (Left and Right)the center hump (4spd)has no mat covering and has original black paint. the two mats are held in place by round metal pegs attached to the cab floor. The far left and right edges are tucked under the sill plates.

The reason I logged onto StoveBolt was to seek help in finding parts that are as close to original as possible.

So again, thank you for your observation and suggestions.

Larkspur - of 3 or so 60-66 trucks I've owned, and a lot more I've 'known', they've all had mats that were full width - all mats after 60 were tucked under the sills - what makes you so sure your split mats are standard factory original?

Thanks for the response...I'm not sure... would there be original black paint on the hub/cover and silver gray metallic paint on the floor boards? Or would everything in the interior be silver gray metallic? The truck has never been repainted inside or out. The mats don't look like they have had the center cut out but they may have been...see Photobucket.com

my first thought seeing a black trans cover and a gray floor would be that someone replaced the trans cover, satin black is standard OEM replacement part finish .... considering Tony's experience with the series, I'd expect his information to be pretty accurate

60-61's were odd ducks, seems like Chevy wanted to glam up those year Custom cab trucks, but then in 62 went back to a simpler truck concept. I've seen one 1960 truck fitted like larkspur describes, and I thought it looked OEM. 60-61 Custom cabs had stainless trim instead of anodized aluminum, more insulation than later models, Chromed grill instead of aluminum, etc.

Since you are so convinced you have a factory-correct split rubber floor mat, don't change it, because you have the only one ever produced and, therefore, it must be priceless. I have purchased NOS floor mats for the '60-'63 Chevy trucks and they were full-width, just like all of the other OEM rubber floor mats, produced and installed in the '60-'66 Chevy/GMC trucks, Panels & Suburbans. I see with your 16 posts and your '61 Chevy Apache acquisition, you have rapidly gone from a newbie, to a self-proclaimed expert on '60-'66 Chevy trucks.

Good luck to you with your project. I will refrain from sharing information or contributing to your threads, in the future.

FYI, all of the truck cabs, had pins, to secure the floor mat and the mat was tucked under the door sills. Your mat was cut and the hump painted, so buy a new rubber mat and do the same, since you are certain this is the way it came from the factory. Retaining orginality is great, as long as you actually know what is truly original.

Thanks Red58. I have garnered a lot of nuggets from a library full of literature and nearly 100 of these trucks, so I am simply a student of the game. I learn something new every day, so this may be one of those situations.

How about some pictures of these 1/2 mats or a printed reference, in any of the GM literature. Any mat can be cut, to cover just the footwells, on either side of the transmission hump, so just because a truck has a half-mat, doesn't mean it was factory. Conversly, a 1/2 mat can not be made into a full-width mat, without noticable, tell-tale signs of the mat being modified.

A good way to demonstrate a 1/2 mats was factory-correct or an available option, is manufacturer's or dealer's literature. Otherwise, it is based on what someone has or someone has seen.

Again, as stated above, if someone has a set of 1/2 mats, that they feel is original & factory-correct, it would be best to leave it alone, since a set of 1/2 mats is not being reproduced or purchase a full-width mat and cut it, to duplicate the set of 1/2 mats.

I do know all the 60-61 high hump pans that i have seen are black,but have always seen a full floormat
