My R. Turn sig. and brake light were not working so I quickly traced the prob. down to a loose lug inside the cab where it goes to the firewall. I plugged it back in and everything works fine. smile However, I got a better look at my wiring and have been suspicious about the wires that run from the firewall to the rear lights since the first day I crawled under and seen it.

1) Mine has a 4-lead moulded set of wires. Similar to a computer flat-cable but heavier ga. and only 4 wires wide. Is this original?

2) Can someone point me to a picture of the connection at the firewall? I'm considering replacing this wiring. I can't see myself buying a wiring harness. I figure they're way expensive. Besides, it's just wire. This is the easiest part of working on my own truck. grin

Thanks in advance for any help.

Rance
PS: Only a spare wheel/tire & turn signal innerds before I can drive it into town. grin

Rance, I just rewired my 66 3/4 ton GMC and yes it is a funny looking flat 4 wire thing. I know it doesn't look right but it is. wink

I'm older than my truck but it's smarter than me! 66 GMC 3/4 ton fleetside 283, turbo 400.

You can buy that wire at any parts store. It is used for trailer wireing. Same code. Brown is tail light, yellow left turn, green right turn. The white is for ground but can be used for backup lights.

I think I'll replace it since I should be able to get it locally. What about connecting it at the front end, I hate to just splice it outside the firewall. What's that plug at the firewall look like and can I buy a new one?

Thanks for the help guys.

Rance

I dought if you will find a connector like that. You can do a real good dependable splice if you get some heat shrink tubing, soldering iron & electrical solder. smile
