I think he means SM 465 4 speed,which replaced the SM 420 in 1968/69.

If so, ignore it and use the '56 linkage bill suggests.

Never dealt with a fj,kd thats why I would have never Known about that gear box!
Never saw it in a G.M. truck all these yrs.
Just assumed we were dealing with Normal G.M. Products.

They can be detected by an aluminum top cover.
