you need a pulse generator/transducer/sender, see here, bottom of page

Thank you red 58 and mnsmith.Ihope i made it clear that im no longer using a computer on this project. I am putting this engine and transmission in a 58 chevy truck. Iam buying new gauges and was not sure how to run a speedo. The puls generator seems like the way to go.Does the genarator send a signal to the Dolphin speedo. Thank you

yes, that's what the pulse generator is for - it comes from Dolphin, so I'd expect it to work with their speedo, but you might inquire about compatibility with the particular trans .... and yes, I understand the computer thing, I have to deal with that on my bus, using a 2000 4L80E and will have to go with an electronic speedo frown

it's a 'black box' that converts the mechanical spin to the electrical signal the speedo needs, not positive for your application, but likely it would install where the speedo cable connects and the spin would generate an electrical signal on a wire to the speedo - might mount under the dash with the speedo cable connected to it, then wires to the speedo - easy to ask Dolphin about your particular setup
