Want to test the solenoid and i now i read on here somewhere how to do it but can't seem to find it. Can someone tell me how to check this thing. It's not on the tranny now. | | | | | Joined: May 2006 Posts: 8,351 'Bolter | | 'Bolter Joined: May 2006 Posts: 8,351 | To test it, you need to supply power to terminal #4 on the solenoid housing. It should be marked with a "4" next to it. The other terminal is #6, which is the pull in/hold in windings for the kickdown function. It can be tested the same way. It is grounded through the case. Here's a link to the overhaul manual . It's a generic manual, convering only the overdrive parts, but they are essentially the same regardless of what the main transmission is.

The larger one is to energize the solenoid. The other is to ground the ignition when the passing gear button is pushed. If you hook jumper cables to the case and the large bolt it should pull the shaft inward to the solenoid.
The small one should be grounded when the solenoid is energized. | | | | | Joined: May 2001 Posts: 7,438 Extreme Gabster | | Extreme Gabster Joined: May 2001 Posts: 7,438 | All kinds of info on that transmission on Deve's Antique Trucks | | | | | Joined: Dec 2011 Posts: 264 Shop Shark | | Shop Shark Joined: Dec 2011 Posts: 264 | well, i retested it and it works. must not have had a good ground. thanks. | | |
