The original exterior finish of the 1950 to 53 GMC radios that I have seen is a bright silver type of either plating or paint. It seems to be a little brighter than some of the other common radios. When working on a radio with some rust it is often necessary to redo the exterior in some manner to make it look presentable. Since re-plating is not really an economically feasible choice, I have always been looking for a paint that comes close to the original look. I have found a product by Krylon in the color of satin nickel, which in my opinion comes close to the original finish look. It is described as self priming and it seems to flow quite nicely.
