Does anyone have a 51-54 that will lay out? If so I would be interested in asking a few questions. It doesn't necessarily have to lay out but get low!

Is this the sort of thing you are asking about?

I am not up on these types of terms/vehicles. Might this one also be called a rat rod, and/or a low-rider?

Yes! Only a lot cleaner looking. lol

Layed out refers to being able to set your truck down pretty low when you are parked. Air shocks or bags. I would prefer air shocks on my truck but I was hoping someone has used them and could tell me how low it wil get and what kind they are running.

HAMB is about "traditional" (what ever that is) hot rods. I'd be ready to get kicked in the teeth for asking there. Seen it, felt it.

The AD sub section has some helpful people who deal in just what he's asking about.

True, many of the truck guys are a little easier going and helpful. A little different in some of the general areas though.

I've seen a thread on a HAMB forum about it and it wasn't pretty! I like the original trucks as well but I've always wanted to build by own truck and I love how the ADs look when they are low!

If it would be better suited for a different section maybe one of the mods could move it to the HiPo shop section? I don't know where it would get the best reaction at.

Lots of ways to do this Mine is a 62 so a different application
I have dropped spindles and air bags on all 4 Notched rear frame
I prefer the bags because of the ease of height adjustment at a show. Empty they allow the front crossmember to be one inch off the pavement. The rear a little higher.

You might want to check out the 67-72 trucks forum. There's a lot of people that are running bagged trucks in several different configurations and heights. They have a 47-59 section as well.

Thanks for the info guys! I say I want to use air shock cause I've already started the suspension using c4 parts. Installed the front crossmember and suspension components on the front last weekend. I used the factory c4 crossmeber instead of going with an after market one just to be able to say I did it I guess. I agree range of adjustment with the bags which is why I'm hoping to get or find info on air shocks.... I know they don't have as much adjustment in them but it would Make thinks mUch cleaner looking to be able to put them in the factory shock mounts ( the lower mount anyway).

A friend did the airshock ride on a heavy 48 Caddy.It looked cool at car shows,but didn't drive very well.Not a comfortable ride.He has since gone to airbags.Much happier with the ride,but he did the suspension twice.Just saying

Was it air shock or AOS air over shock. Air over shock is what I'm referring to when I say air shock... I'm not sure it its considered the same think or not. Like the shockwave air shocks.... They seem to be all the rage and should be like riding on a cloud for the price!!!

Pretty funny/interesting to see this happening. Back in the 70's we used Gabriel Hi-Jackers (air shocks) and shackles to get that rear end up as high as possible. Bolt on fix for big tires!
Now it's how low can you go and the tech available gives you easier ride high control.

My dad was telling me the other day about how they used to use them to raise their trucks up... Probably in the 70s as well!
