John - if you
search the electrical forum for 'install alternator' you'll get all the opinions in all the threads where this has been hashed over - getting the gen rebuilt would work, but prolly won't be cheaper than some breed of alternator, which requires slight wiring mods, and coming up w/ a mount for the gen - not real tough
my 58 has the old style externally regulated alt, works fine - my 57 has the original gen setup, works fine
