For helping keep this great
old truck web site
on the Internet for over 30 years! and not clogged down with Ads! Again, thanks! | | | | Joined: May 2008 Posts: 36 New Guy | | New Guy Joined: May 2008 Posts: 36 | Hi, I'm doing my first transplant and need some wisdom. I have a '54 3600, a 700r4, and a 1963 283. I have the engine and trans in the truck and I have the mounts but need some help placing them. Engine mount is a tubular Chevs of the 40s. Trans. mount is chassis engineering. Does anyone have pictures or measurements? I'm worried about misalignment and interference.

I've looked at this one before and find the descriptions helpfull. I was hoping for some pictures with better detail though. Someone out there must have a picture saved from their install.

Not sure it will help, but see my signature for pics. I want your shop. Thanks for the pictures. As far as interference and alignment go, I'm not sure that I even know everything to be concerned about. I know I need at least a one degree difference between trans and intermediate bearing. Fore and aft position will be dictated by radiator and firewall. Height is limited by the span between frame upper and lower flanges. I'm hoping that someone has completed this combo and found the perfect position.

Most I was worried about was having the distributor on my 5.7L, clear the fire wall. I was looking at my set up yesterday and I probably could have gotten closer to the firewall by a 1/2" to an inch. Things are a little tight on the radiator side but I can make it work using some intake elbows and an electric radiator fan. And because of that fan, I wasn't worried about engine height. I mostly was worried about clearing the "trans tunnel" area. | | | | | Joined: May 2008 Posts: 36 New Guy | | New Guy Joined: May 2008 Posts: 36 | I was thinking electric fan also. I haven't looked at one yet but woul have to assume that it is thinner than the engine fan plus the required clearance. I look to have enough clearance for everything except the steering box which will probably get shifted outboard as others have done. Its a matter of figuring how tight I want the transmission to the firewall and at what angle I want the drivetrain.
