| | | | Joined: Oct 2012 Posts: 23 New Guy | | New Guy Joined: Oct 2012 Posts: 23 | I have a 52 Chevy 3800, 216 engine with Rochester single barrel carb. I purchased and installed new Choke and Throttle cable assemblies.
My problem is that the accelerator return spring will not allow the throttle cable to remain in the pulled state. As soon as I release the throttle cable knob, it returns to the dash. What am I missing?

I think the only fix is to 'crush' the rigid housing just behind the dash to create more friction - or get a wimpier return spring  Bill | | | | | Joined: Sep 2001 Posts: 581 Shop Shark | | Shop Shark Joined: Sep 2001 Posts: 581 | I second Bill. If your new cable is long enough, try putting a loop in it, to give enough friction to hold the core against the spring. It's a matter of introducing enough resistance so it holds itself. I've often wondered why they (presumably) worked so well from the factory, but are hard to get right now-a-days.
