I have been looking for a good Fulton visor for my 49’ 3100. In my search I have heard complaints about “cheap” reproductions, and the wrong visor for the vehicle. So, my first question is how do I tell if it is a “cheap” Fulton visor? My second question is what the right version is. On Stovebolt I have seen some discussion, however nothing too clear. In doing a Google search I found a few conflicting pieces of information.

I found some additional information from a Yahoo Group posting that mentioned a 900 series.
The problem I found was in looking at the units, how can I tell which is which (the 53’ discussion did help a little), and how can I tell if it is a cheap reproduction? I figured you guys are the ones to ask. Thanks in advance for all you help!

I don't believe there is such a thing as a "cheap" Fulton. There may be a poorly made reproduction.


That is the site I have bookmarked for reference. The only difference I've seen between the types of Fulton that would make a difference in whether it fits a particular type of vehicle is the side brackets (dogbones) and whether it connects to the windshield center strip. The Fultons I've seen are all adjustable for width to fit multiple applications. The Fulton on my '38 has dogbones for a different body style that we "messaged" a bit to fit my car. If you look closely at the link above in your quote you'll see two types of end brackets. One with the upper support leg toward the end of the bracket and one with it about half way down. My body style needs the one with the leg half way down but the Fulton I bought had the others. We made them work fairly easily. The second part is whether or not it attaches to the center windshield support. If you have a one piece windshield and buy a Fulton that needs to attach to the center support for strength you're going to have issues.

If you buy a Fulton that is complete (I've seen a number of them with broken mounting tabs on the dogbone legs) and pay attention to whether or not it mounts to a center windshield support you should have no problems mounting it.

About 5 years ago I had these instructions in a safe place on my computer for future reference ..... of course when I needed them I could not find them ....I will keep them where I can find them from now on .

I believe this discussion was about Fulton visors and their application ..my question was Are these posted permently somewhere on Stovebolt such as in Tech Tips section because I was sure glad to find it ..maybe others would also

No need to apologize, just wondering exactly what you were referring to. OK, you're wanting a tech tip for installing a Fulton on a truck. That's not a bad idea but the only direct experience I have is in installing the one on my '38 coupe. I have some general knowledge of the Fulton but I'm far short of what would be needed for a comprehensive, personal experience based, tech tip. While the process is undoubtedly similar there may be differences I'm not aware of. If someone has the experience to write a tech tip they need to write it up and submit it to Peg who will forward it for approval and publication.

The instructions reference various models (603, 700, 701, 702, 704, 800, 807, 900, and 1000). After looking at a couple of visors, I did not see any imprinted model numbers. I was able to identify the Fulton visors by a round chrome cap in the bracket assembly that says "Fulton."

My 49' 3100 is a split window, so I found one with the center support. I checked the size of my windshield, and compared it to the visor. Also, as you mentioned above, the model I wanted has brackets which mount into the door jab of my truck, and not the door frame.

I don't know how Fulton identified the different models. Since the model number doesn't seem to be on the actual visor it may have just been on the box. One good thing is they are adjustable for width and the end brackets are malleable aluminum so they can be made to fit about anything.
