I just got back from a 4 mile run on the back roads with betsy and she runs well.(Boy does this takes me back).outside temp was 19 degrees here this morning.Never shut her down the highest running temp i got on the new gauge was 165. Any one got any ideas why she does not top off at 180+-. maybe wait till summer. my son in law has one of those laser pointer things. He will be up for Easter.Real luke warm heat.

the thermostat sets the minimum temperature the engine can run, it doesn't 'top off' higher because it's too cold out - sounds like you have a 160 thermostat, you need a 180 for winter driving

I have the same issue with my 230 in the 64'. Part of my problem is due to having a new radiator built with 3 rows instead of the original 2 rows, and efficency coming into play. It's been really cold here(in the teens) and several feet of snow on the ground, so I just cover part of the radiator with some cardboard much as I did when I had the KW. Without it the heater is working overtime to just barely keep frostbite to a minimum.
