I am thinking of just taking a grinding tool and cutting them off. I just want to know if that will mess up putting them back on (running boards(, or if they are bolts that can replace. Thanks | | | | Joined: Aug 2010 Posts: 775 'Bolter | 'Bolter Joined: Aug 2010 Posts: 775 | I have a 46. If they are like mine they are carriage bolts. They slide into a channel in the running board. Easy to replace when you get it all apart. | | | | Joined: Sep 2001 Posts: 29,262 Bubba - Curmudgeon | Bubba - Curmudgeon Joined: Sep 2001 Posts: 29,262 | Many people simply break those flat-headed carriage bolts (or, cut the bolts). Several vendors sell replacement-bolt sets (I think some bolt-sets are stainless steel). Classic Parts calls them Step Bolts | | | | Joined: Feb 2010 Posts: 323 'Bolter | 'Bolter Joined: Feb 2010 Posts: 323 | I've been splitting the bolts with a grinder till the nut is cut in half then they come off easy with no damage to running board.
These old bolts are in my blood. Hard thing is focusing on just one.

Just twist them til they snap and get some new 1/4-20 carriage bolts for replacement, from your local ACE Hardware. Then you can save the cuss words for another project............ | | | | Joined: Nov 2011 Posts: 60 Wrench Fetcher | Wrench Fetcher Joined: Nov 2011 Posts: 60 | OK, I'm cutting them off, Thanks | | |
