Can you help decode these numbers?

Engine cast # 3738307 F205A CON 8 B48

My interpretation is 235 engine Flint plant, Feb 5 car application. The B48 is Feb ???? 1958?

The Head cast # 3836848 CON 9 E93 = 235 head from 1955-1962/ May of 1959?

Help me out here guys and Thank You

Jerry,

Here are my guesses (use the link at the bottom to find locations of date casting codes).

3738307 = 235 1958-1960 block
B48 - depends where you found this - it might be a date casting code (Feb 4 1958)

F205A
F = Flint, Mi
20 = 20th
5 = May
A = 235 engine from regular transmission car

3836848 = 56-63 235 head
E93 = ? May 9th 1963? (if this is the date casting code)

The locations of the head and block date-casting codes are shown on this page.

If it is a car engine, all car engines from 1956 onwards had hydraulic lifters.

Thanks T C, I agree the block is a 1958 235.
I AM a little more puzzled by the Head #'S. The 3836848 is visible outside the tappet cover driver side of engine. I find the CON 9 E93 on the top of the head, under the valve cover, between the 4th and 5th cylinders' valves

You found the E93 in the correct location for a head date casting code.

It might well be a 1963 replacement head.
