All other gages work (Temp, Oil pressure, Charge/DC) Am I looking at a fuse issue? Truck is a 63 C-10. This is the easiest problem to fix. The other main issue is a grounding problem somewhere in the guage panel or along the circuit. This one always takes me a little longer to track down. Is your guage bouncing or is it always stuck on full? | | | | | Joined: Nov 2006 Posts: 231 'Bolter | | 'Bolter Joined: Nov 2006 Posts: 231 | 1963 Chevy C-10 Fleetside 1970 C-30 Dump Truck 2025 Silverado High Country 2500 Diesel 2012 Indian Chief Vintage serial #002 motorcycle 1946 Indian Chief, 1947 Indian Chief w/sidecar,2014 Indian Chieftain, 2015 Indian Scout | | | | | Joined: Jul 2006 Posts: 240 'Bolter | | 'Bolter Joined: Jul 2006 Posts: 240 | Flip your seat forward, remove the wire off the sending unit, turn the key on and then ground that wire and see if the gauge moves. If it does get a new sending unit. Somewhere in the mid 60's they changed the ohm's rating on the sending unit I think it is 66, yours should be a 30 ohm and the later will be a 60 ohm. Someone may have already changed it and got the wrong one, look the screw heads over real goodand see if you can tell if they have been removed. Check with Tony at 4-5-6 he might have what you need. Also check if the tank is grounded,

This "strap" is a conductor and I just soldered it back together and now the gauge works fine. I know of two units where this has been the problem. Hope this helps. Jim My 65 sending unit has that problem too. The PO must have found it. This pic shows his added wire rigged up for a "fix". I think the solder repair sounds better. Is the wire fix in the photo dangerous? Sending unit with broken strap | | |
