The Stovebolt Site Forums The Shop Area Engine Shop 71 Camero rear end?

Does any one know if I could use a 1971-78 camero rear end on my 55 2nd series chassis? And would it take a lot of work to get it done?
I am going to put a disk brake conversion kit (71-78 camero) on the front and I would like to keep it all one year and make of car. I also want a narrower rear end to put on wider tiers. The guy at the Salvage yard recomended a 64 Impala rear end.

Looks like your pick-up would be 62" flange to flange and a '71 Camaro comes in at either 60" or 61-1/2". Pretty close, but getting out the tape measure on both donor and recipient will be the test.

If its possible , why not take the rearwheels off (if it has any now) and maybe even remove the rear axle completely . then you can slide in a pair of wheel/tire combo's you want to use and see if they will clear the frame and fenders . get them blocked into the right spot and measure the inside to inside axle width off of the wheels , then you can see what you will need to make this combo work .
