Never in all the years that I've been around automobiles as a
wrench twister and parts man have I ever seen a carb kit that
didn't have a "Needle & Seat."

If I got a kit that was missing one of the main components in a
carb rebuild it would be back on the parts counter lickety split.

Take it back, there is obviously a mistake in the packaging or
they just gave you a gasket set.

I have never seen one without the needle and seat either. One of the bad things about being able to return parts is sometimes the box is not complete when it goes back on the shelf.

I have used hundreds of kits from Napa & other brands & have never seen one without a needle & seat. I would e-mail Napa headquarters & tell them that all the guys on the websites say there should be a needle & seat in the kit. Was the accel. pump in it?
I had a problem with some Min-wax stain & contacted them by E-mail. They kicked a letter back with some big words explaining the problem, that made no sense to me , but they said send the receit & they would send a refund.

you just have to be assertive, they'll give you a new kit with all the pieces. You can't begin to know if everything is in there WITHOUT opening it. Not to mention the fact how would you know what is supposed to be in there?

Auto part stores have a lot of flexabilty on returning parts and making things right. Apparently your NAPA store doesn't want your business too bad.

I just opened my box from NAPA last night and overhauled my carb. It was complete or at least I think it was. The needle and seat, pump, gaskets, and ball checks were there. Not every spring was available in the kit but i do not know what springs come in the kit either. The diagram was a bad copy thats my only complaint with the carb kit. I really like NAPA parts just our Vegas counter salesmen are not friendly but thats why I go on line.

Carburetor rebuilding kits come with a needle and seat assembly.

Exceptions:

(A) Carburetor gaskets sets which contain gaskets only
(B) A very few carbs that have a non-removable seat, but the kit still contains a new needle
(C) Kit manufacturer error

I would suggest you go back to the NAPA store, and ask politely to speak with the manager. Politely ask the manager to order the same kit and open it in your presence.

There are currently only two major manufacturers of carburetor parts in this country; we buy from them both. We have bought rebuilding kits MISSING the needle and seat; and the next kit having an EXTRA. We generally buy needles and seats by the hundred. Of any given hundred, at least 6 will be missing the needle, the seat, the gasket, or the retainer. Welcome to the modern world where many are looking for 5 o'clock, Friday, and payday!

Mistakes happen. Sounds like the NAPA employee with whom you are dealing is new. Any employee that has been around a few weeks would know that the kit should contain the needle and seat; and obtain one for you.

Good luck.

Jon.

My NAPA Carb kit came with everything here is my NAPA part # 2-5158. On the sealed white box the numbers were 080P15157, 120709 with a bar code of 091769625252. I threw the blue outer box away as i have stated the vegas guys are really difficult to deal with but I like the parts so I order my parts online.

Good Luck also

I would direct them to their own online photo of the kit as well. Part Number: CRB 25158

I never knew these kits come with a warranty.

Your 51 3100 is super sharp.I am not going after the show room look with Betsy,I just want to get her back to what i remember when i was a kid.The color is very close to yours.the hood and fenders just needed buffing. The box was a different story along with the back fenders. Dad painted her with a brush and i spend my time now sanding.
