I have a 41 1/2 ton pickup with a 6 volt system. does anyone know if the Optima 6v battery will fit the original battery box? The diminsions of the Optima battery are 10" long x 3.5" wide x 8" high. I'm not at home and can't measure for myself. Thanks.

My batt box is apparently the same as yours and measures 9.5" long. I think I'm going to op'd for the interstate battery to be safe. It's the conventional 6 volt size with 575cca. I don't want to take a chance ordering a Optima and finding out it won't fit.

That said, there are a number of guys on the GMC site with 6-volt Optimas, and I don't think any of them have had any fitment problems, including the guy with a '37. | | |

I went through this with my 37 Chevrolet pickup and after measuring everything on the battery rack at the local Auto Zone, the Optima case was the size of the smallest Group Size. The top hung over a bit more, but it still fit the box. And, of course, we all know they are the best!

Optima batteries were first invented if that is the correct term in the USA. The company then sold the patent to Sweeden or Holland if my memory is correct. Sad.

It never crossed my pea brain that I could possibly angle it into my batt box. I think it's about 3.5" wide. I'm a little reluctant to modify a new battery box.
