I recently purchased a complete drive train from what was a 1937 1/2 ton that worked for the National forest Fire department. It had overload springs on it.

I have a 1937 GMC half ton. It has the same rear axle and springs. I was thinking of putting the overloads on my 37.

I have the orriginal parts book for 1937 GMC and they don't show that the overload or "auxillary" spring was even availabel on a half ton GMC.

Does anyone here have the 1937 parts book for Chevy that they can look at and see if it lists the overload spring as an option from the factory.

I'm trying to figure out if I was a farmer in 1937 if I could have ordered these springs from the dealer. Also curious why my book shows nothing?

Thanks. Dan

back then you could get about anything, including aftermarket .... I see a variety of springs in the master parts catalog that could be what you have, including a "2 stage" set .... need to count the leaves

Do you like them? Are they noisy when you go over bumps?

...a 37 my nephew and I restored also had the overloads. One thing for sure it was a stiff set up for a 1/2 ton truck.

I'd rather walk and carry a Chevy hub cap than ride in a Ferd.

I've decided not to use them.

My 37 had them too and could not find anything about them, all my sales literature only mentions them on the 1 1/2 tons. I think they could have came from the factory since on one part it has GC stamped on it,I put a later rear end in it so I did not put them back on and keeping then for parts when I need leaves for the front springs.
