Recently I've come across two early 50's 3100s that had been upgraded to open drivetrain, heavier suspension, 8 lug hubs, huge rear ends, more leaves in springs.

I guess this was done to improve their farm use and durability? Agree?

Thanks - Dickson

Shortbeds or long? If they're longbeds, I would be more inclined to think that somewhere along the line the hoods got swapped with whatever was available, and the badges never got changed. I wouldn't be the first time I have seen that happen.

Thinking a short bed, but I'll measure. Good hypothesis...

check your year restoration information kit, roughly, the long bed is 8', short 6'

note also that all models could be gotten with optional suspension equipment that increased the GVW rating - see the resto info
