I want something a little quicker than a wrench to remove the terminal from the battery lug. | | | | Joined: May 2001 Posts: 1,878 'Bolter | 'Bolter Joined: May 2001 Posts: 1,878 | I use the disconnect which attaches to one battery terminal and the battery cable. It has a big green knob that turns to disconnect. The green isn't important but the nice size gives you leverage. I also use one to disconnect my camper battery. I think I bought them at Walmart. 1948 3/4-Ton 5-Window Flatbed Chevrolet 33 Years. Now with a '61 261, 848 head, Rochester Monojet carb, SM420 4-speed, 4.10 rear, dual reservoir MC, Bendix up front, 235/85R16 tires, 12-volt w/alternator, electric wipers and a modern radio in the glove box.

I also found these... https://www.autozone.com/autozone/a...vers/_/N-25hn?itemIdentifier=422528_0_0_Might just get them and the premade 1ga cloth covered cable from Jim Carter and call it a day. No cutting, no soldering and no extra junctions. | | | | Joined: Oct 2005 Posts: 4,168 "Hey! I sound like Darth Vader!! | "Hey! I sound like Darth Vader!! Ended up getting a nice heavy duty switch recommended to me by Hotrod Lincoln. ...looks like the locking handle Flaming River branded 'Big Switch' and mounting bracket. | | | | Joined: Oct 2005 Posts: 4,168 "Hey! That's why I get a Cole Hersee part number and shop elsewhere. | | | | Joined: Mar 2011 Posts: 937 'Bolter | 'Bolter Joined: Mar 2011 Posts: 937 | | | | | Joined: Oct 2006 Posts: 9,671 'Bolter | 'Bolter Joined: Oct 2006 Posts: 9,671 | Those heavy duty CH disconnects are avalable from a lot of different vendors. I think I got one from a FLAPS a few years ago. Cole Hersee is an OEM company and you have to get them from one of their distributors. They are quite expensive compaired to the ones that are used at the battery. About $35 back then if I recall correctly. I haven't installed it because bought it so I could hide it and I haven't figured out exactly where I want to put it. Also to hide it I would need to get two more longer battery cables, so there it sits in a box somewhere in the barn. DG

Or maybe it was on the frame inside the fender well. I also had some jumper studs on the frame. I had redone the floor ( before panels were sold at vendors ) and it was solid sheet. So the only way to service the battery was to drop it down. I had the key version for the shutoff switch as a theft deterrent. | | | | Joined: May 2011 Posts: 48 'Bolter | 'Bolter Joined: May 2011 Posts: 48 | I just installed a knife switch to disconnect battery on my '41 GMC - purchased from NAPA. knife switch battery disconnect | | |
