for a 6v voltmeter gauge. All I can find are 12v (~8-18v).

maybe you could rig a shunt on a 12V gauge, apparently easy enough on the tool-type voltmeters - might check with a place like Ron Francis Wiring regarding value of resistor to use, or even if they have/know of a gauge source
