1953 signal stat steering column mounted unit in the 53 6400 out here

i have no brake lights or rear turn signal lights working on this truck, front turn lights do work fne though.

do have taillights,

brake switch appears ot be whats on the forn side of firewall in front of brake pedal arm, and has two post thread style connections on top side of it and two wires, look to be cloth covered aluminum stock '53 wires, connections very green corroded and one of the wires in bad shape at the post connector crimped on end of it.

flasher metal box thingy is clamped under dash to column and has two wires to it, and then a later plastic smaller guage blue wire hanging free near it but not plugged into it, i have no idea where it goes, i assume its add on later on for soemthing not workign anymore.

i found a larger cloth covered wire on firewall up high underhood that is blinking with front left turn but frotn turn stays blinking whren you cut into the wire, so i assume its the rear one since it goes down with rear harness, i traced it and its all connected, but still have no power at back at the left rear light.

odd...

is there anywhere i can see '50's GM big truck signal stat wiring color codes ? diagram ? info ?

and was this dealer or owner aftermarket installed system ?

There shold be 2 wires that are the directional or blinker wires.These are then split under the hood with one wire to the front and one to the rear for both the right and left sideThe third wire should be the hot wire. I just hookke mine up a week ago.First off check for curent from the switch and then at the directionals.Its fairly easy but a test light or multi meter is a big help. There were several models of Signal-stat units. My '53 has a model 700. It has only 5 wires and must use separate light units for the rear signals. (independent of the brake light units) On the model 700 the yellow wire connects to a two terminal flasher, with a fused hot wire to the other terminal. Then green to L front, red to R front, white to L rear, black to R rear.
Some of the other models can use the same lights for the rear and brake lights. (see the diagram Slow..Rider linked to)

I think OldCarKook\'s website has a diagram for another model but I couldn't find it quickly and got lost in the other neat stuff while looking.
