Im going to order a mustang 2 kit from speedway soon. It's going on a 1939 1/2 ton. I have the heidts crossmember already, just looking to order the rest of the components. Can anyone tell me if i need to go with stock width or the narrowed version? Also speedway offers different spring rates, any input on which one i'll need? IT's going to be fully boxed and have a 350 and a th350 or a 700r4.

heres the kit im thinking... http://www.speedwaymotors.com/Mustang-II-IFS-w-Tubular-Control-Arms-Stock-Springs-and-Spindles,2089.html

the fenders of the truck are too narrow for stock. even with narrowed, you may need to use special offset rims to get the correct(ish) track width. also so the tires fit under the fenders better and steer w/o rubbing. get your tape measure and measure the stock track width and go from there.

I have a stock width M2 under my '40. 275 / 17 tires on fairly deep wheels - no issues with fit, although they do fill the wheel wells pretty good. Stock springs, with 2" drop spindles give it a nice stance.

I went with Heidts M2 on my 1946 w/ LT1 V8 & auto trans. Their tech guy recommended 350lb springs and standard width arms and not to go with the narrowed arms. I actually got mine from Minnesota Hot Rod Hardware. Price was similar to Speedway but Hot Rod Hardware had $20 shipping and I would have had to pay Nebraska sales tax from Speedway. Tough to buy local when it’s $150 just for sales tax.

hey britcon i cant look at your pics in the bucket, but i can see the one in the stovebolt gallery. your 40 looks awesome. I'd love to see some other pics of it. That's how it sits with the 2 inch drop spindles? looks like it'd be close to the fenders when turning.

No, I just took the recommendation and went with it. I got regular springs & shocks, not coilovers, which might change the spring rate. Jim Soutar of Heidts [email protected] answered my questions. Unfortunately the pieces are still in the boxes (months later) so I can’t yet say how it turned out.

JCKN....sorry about the pics. Bucket is closed / link won't work anymore. I am in the process of moving stuff to Picassa but got sidetracked. Tire fit on front is tight, but does not rub.
PM me your E mail if you wish - I'll forward a few pics.
