Price wise it's the same old story. I've been given several just
to get them out of the guys garage. Because of the lower gear
ratio a lot were replace by Muncie 4speeds or the newer T5's so
a lot of them are still taking up room in the corner of the
shop.
The guys who are building the rock-crawlers seem to like them so
there may be a market for them there. My guess would be
somewhere around one hundred bucks.

For sure do not pay more than $100 for it. I can't seem to get anything for them. I have scraped many of them.

The individual is asking $250 obo. I personally think it a tad too much. I'd hate to insult him at half is asking price. But I don't see them come up locally for sale often.
What would the U joint yoke problem present? Would it require a different intermediate driveshaft? or custom cut one?

I would not offer anything over $50-$100, and, even then, I'd at least ask the person to guarantee it will work - the seller would agree via email they would give my money gack, if I give them back the transmission. Then, pay with a Postal Money Order. Might scare them into being honest (it will not really give you any protection, unless you send the Money Order through the mail with a registered letter/copy of the email-message agreement.
The parts you will need for the enclosed drive-line is the transmission's rear cover/housing and a 1/2 ton u-joint for use with an enclosed drive-shaft SM420 (the forward yoke, at least).

It's a two-piece drive shaft with a u-joint directly behind the current tranny. On the other hand, my 3/4 ton is enclosed as Tim described. Tell the seller that you are looking for what you need to make it work on your truck.
Then, post a want-ad here for a rear cover and u-joint.
You've got nothing to lose if the seller says no, or if he sells it to someone else, or if you cannot find the parts.
