Both to this forum and to the wonderful world of trucks with out of print repair manuals, impossible to find parts and devious electrical goblins...

However, tomorrow I am going to go do some work on a 65 GMC P/U, a 305 V6 3/4 ton (I think) with the idea of getting it road worthy enough to drive home.

The only problem that is a known quantity is the turn signal switch...which, of course, I couldn't find a replacement for anywhere. At least, not one that I was sure fit on this truck.

So, for now, my only question is what is the best way to go about solving this problem? Will the switch from later model GMC's or Chev's work?

If not, what is the easiest/best work around? Are there aftermarket switches that will work? Has anyone used a switch to bypass the one in the steering column and if so, exactly what kind of switch?

I tried to use the search function to get a few answers but that was....ummmm......tedious.

Any help or advice would be greatly appreciated....

I'm not sure what kind of wiring harness is on your present 65 column, but if it was me, I'd consider dropping a new tilt steering column in from your local scrap yard - most any GM column would do - the question would be whether or not the column harness would plug in. If not, then I would match the appropriate wires up (parks, turns, etc.) and connect them individually.

Have you tried finding the switch at Chevy Duty?
