Disassembled the front bumper assembly for blasting and painting. Beating some of the sheet metal in to shape.

Fitting and tacking up the exhaust.

Thinking about running my tail light wiring.

Lowered the '51 back in November. Just now got around to uploading the pics and updating my blog.

http://rustyfiftyone.com/2012/11/18/attitude-adjustment-ol-girl-is-at-an-all-time-low/

Also replaced the shocks and the axle came from a fellow bolter who had already replaced the kingpins. Man, what a difference the whole shebang made!

Sandblast the front bumper brackets, painted said parts.

Got out the tig to 1) Practice welding with it and 2) Finish welding the exhaust pipes. Not a bad outing but need much more practice!!

Miller Syncrowave 250. I should probably start practicing on flat stock and not tubing. Not a hard concept, just got to learn to finesse it and synchronize foot with hand and hand. I didn't do real bad with the exhaust tubing and O2 sensor bung.

I discovered my dash has been attacked by an angry beaver. Sad what people can do to an old vehicle.

Site of Beaver Attack

A PO had this metal flange plate to cover the damage. Not a bad idea but could have been executed better.

This is the radio I took out. Can anyone ID it for me.

Radio

Hope to remove speaker grill tomorrow. But it is cold here and the truck is outside.

My dash looked like yours so I smoothed it and painted. I don't listen to the radio in any vehicle so it's no loss to me. I, too, have to do all my work outside in the elements.

Your dash looks good.

I assume you welded in some sheet metal and then some bondo.

What color did you paint your dash?

I rolled a piece of 18 gauge steel at work to match the dash, so it needed almost no bondo. Then I used Rust-oleum's Dark Bronze Metallic (#7272). It's a decent match for the original color, but I wanted some shine so I used Rust-oleum's Crystal Clear Enamel (#7701) over the bronze. It looks better in person, and in the sun.

I had a small job like that over the driver side window where someone had put in an overhead wiper. It was an easy patch.

http://i527.photobucket.com/albums/cc355/Chevytwoton/interior%20patch/IMG_7661.jpg

Cut out the crap.

http://i527.photobucket.com/albums/cc355/Chevytwoton/cutoutfordriversidepatch_zps7e4f5918.jpg

Then welded in a new patch. I just had to bend it with my vise and blocks of wood if I remember correctly.

Should have had the camera on macro, sorry for the fuzzy pics. Very little bondo.

....well, even though I don't feel to chipper today I had my son help me put the PVC cowl cover inside the cab on my panel today. I wish I had put it in earlier but we got r done. I just need to replace the gas pedal and couple small things like putting some self tapping screws through it to keep it in place. I filled all holes when the body was off for body work.

....it was a little tight and had to trim the edges a little but with all the cowl panel work its no wonder.

Pulled my rad out, also the fan and water pump. I sourced a bigger pulley for the water pump, will change that on Monday, heater going in too while the engine is drained.

With the holidays over I'll be heating the garage and diving into a few chores I've been planning on for a couple of months. The first is to locate a remote charging station to avoid having to remove carpet of drop the battery when needed. If my fading memory will allow I'll post some pics.

Starting to order a few parts as we work on the IFS. Discovered we needed to order some new T-bolts to attach the A-arms since we're using some existing parts we already had. Also ordered my column saver kit, which I'm quite excited about! Plan on keeping my interior as original as possible but have a more dependable engine. So looking forward to getting a few boxes from my FedEx man at the end of the week!

I disassembled the heater from the '59 and sanded, primed and painted the housing. The blower motor is siezed though... I'm hoping the '58 parts truck has a good one.
I also freed-up the throttle and choke cables and painted some interior parts since it was sunny yesterday.
I'm waiting on a Fed-Ex delivery as well... new glove box liner and bumpers, heater decal and a firewall grommet set.
I only had a few hours to "play" but any progress is good. The turn of tide for some reassembly is near!

I can relate to the excitement of expecting parts from Fed-x and UPS. That is one of the "fun" things (watching for the delivery) we experience in this hobby.

Got the 454 painted, doghouse off the truck, a few dings beat out of the grill ( how the heck do the grills get dinged up behind that big bumper anyway ). Will be pulling the 235 and 4 speed out this week and mocking up the big block and Clark 5speed OD by the weekend. Its gonna be a whole new animal!

Sandblasted the rear apron, beat it into a better shape. Beat the front apron in to a decent shape. Tomorrow, more welding of the cracks then finish blasting the front apron, then paint for both. I'm still pulling glass bead out of my ears. Work might slow on the Suburban again as it is almost time to put the flopper together! Gonna need to fix and update the trailers for both the flopper and the dragster! Meanwhile, I'm getting the itch to start wiring the Suburban. It would be really cool to use it as a push car in March!!

Finally got the new fuel pump installed. Then I let it run for a half hour and shut it down. Next step is to change the pinion seal.

I finally got a bigger pulley on the front of the waterpump. The 6" pulley simply went over the existing 4" pulley. Bolt the fan back on, get a slightly longer fan belt and I'm in business. I did a short road test and I smiled all the way.

Won't this move the pulley about a hundred thousands forward and cause a slight misalignment of the belt resulting in excess wear?

It's looking good. Any response from law enforcement as to who did it?
