I have a 1954 3600 done with paint and wiring and about to road test. I polarized the regulator as per manual says, and it did not charge. With the motor running I did it again and it charged. When I turned the motor off and restarted it it would not charge until I polarized the regulator again with the motor running. This happened many times. I am using the generator I rebuilt and the regulator that came with the truck. It has been replaced before I got the truck. Do you think the regulator is at fault, because it does charge but on the high side at 15.6 volts. It just wont repolarize itself every time.
Thanks I'm really anxious to start driving my truck.

polarizing only needs to be done one time at most on an installation - I'd think sticking points in the reg - try giving it a rap with something next time instead of polarizing it - could also pop the cover and watch what's going on .... if it's overcharging you'll want to adjust it
