My 51 has been converted to 12v. It was rewired with all running lights, heater, electric wipers, tach, and guages on the same circuit. When all are on at once the 15 amp fuse blows. None alone will blow the fuse so I don't think there is a short. Should I just put in a heavier fuse or should 15 amps be adequate?

there should be a fuse on individual circuits - specially lights - what's the point of fusing the whole works? one of the purposes of fusing is to tell ya there's a problem in a system, and it don't do much good to tell ya there's a problem in the electrical system!! grin

put lights on separate circuit w/ smaller fuse - wipers and heater each on own, rest together - factory did that for a reason

Headlights draw around 4-6 amps each at 14 volts depending on the style,ie halogen or standard.Almost all vehicles use an auto resetting circut breaker on the headlight circuit to prevent a temporary problem from plunging you in darkness. You can use a 30 amp fuse instead of the breaker,it'll break the circuit to prevent a meltdown in case of a severe short circuit, but won't nuisance blow .

And use a metal fuse holder for a 30 amp fuse. I had a plastic holder melt completely without ever blowing the 30 amp fuse!
