Can someone please tell me what wires should go where on an external regulator alternator (GM).

I've got some factory diagrams stashed away somewhere. The circuit is different for applications with an ammeter than the ones with an idiot light. The ammeter-equipped circuit needs a resistor in it somewhere, don't remember exactly where, to keep the engine from continuing to run when the key is turned off. Been there, done that! I'll try to post a diagram when I get back to the farm in a couple of days, if someone hasn't helped out by then.

Here's a circuit that should work. I don't know if your system has an indicator light or an ammeter, so I've included both circuits. If you choose not to use the light, just eliminate that part of the circuit, but keep the resistor. Good luck!

Here is one that covers lighting for an AD truck........It was made by a user here (Chief? someone correct me if I am wrong).
I still had it on my website, or it would have been lost.

On my Dad's '57 3600, we used an SI 10 Alternator, no need to fool around with all those wires. We did use an "Idiot" light on a harness we made ourselves.
Without the light, the truck would not turn off.
Ammeter still worked, no re-wiring required.
Beat the heck out of a Generator, especially on a 283.
I am sure better answers will come along shortly.
