The Stovebolt Site Forums The Shop Area Engine Shop It's Finally running (Properly)

Thanks to this forum and the guys and gals in it. I finally have my engine issues resolved. I have a 1953 3800 with a 216. I was having all kinds of problems with low compression, Hard starting and running rich. I found out my starter was turning way to slow and needed a set of brushes. Fixed the low compression readings I was getting. It went from 90 PSI across the board to 120 PSI across the board. The running rich issue turned out to be the float .It was a 1/8 of a inch too low. After correcting both issues and setting the timing, the engine now starts in a 1/4 of a turn and purrs like a kitten with no smoke! Just wanted to say thanks to all the bolters out there for the expert advise.

You say you got the compression fixed. What was it that fixed it for you?

The starter was spinning too slow and giving a false reading. I also tested my gauge with a air compressor to make sure it was correct.
