I used the up-grade harness from Chevy Duty (made by American Autowire) and it went in well, the instructions were clear and when I fired it up, the AMP gage showed a good charge then gradually went down to a 1/2 needle above neutral. All's good right? NO! the key didn't stop the engine. I assumed that a resistor would be in-line for my application ('59 3100 w/235 and 4 speed).
I went to Radio Shack and found a 12 volt 1/2" lamp, (did you know there are 1/2" holes spaced across the bottom of the dash? I didn't till I was under there)Spliced it in the exciter line and problem solved!
I now have a Warning light that you don't notice until it's on since it points towards the parking brake handle and isn't in the face of the dash. I didn't have to drill any holes and it's a press in lamp. I did put quick connects on the line so I can replace the lamp as needed.
Without you guy's and the past posts on the subject, I would still scratching my head about this.
THANKS GUYS!!

I know you believe you understand what you think I said, but I'm not sure that you realize that what you heard is not what I meant!
