My 1954, 3100 pickup, basket case is coming together. The starter housing broke. I called "The filling Station " to order one and the helpful person, wanting to do it right the first time asked me to read the Casting # on the engine block to him, located on the block near the starter.I read "CON--- C304" He told me what a 54 ,235 should read and this was not right. Needless to say, I need to find out what I have. The # stamped in the block near the Distributor is " 0478860f54X "
Can someone here help me with this?

From the serial number (the stamped number) it comes out as a '54 235 built at Flint Michigan, and is a 3100 Truck w/manual transmission application. The other code (cast near the starter) is the casting date and which line it was on. The C304 breaks down to the block being cast on March 30 of 1954.
If they need the block casting number, it is located near the front of the block and will be a 7 digit number.
