I'm new at this stuff and have been using fiberglass filler with not much success. Can I cover the fiberglass filler with a different filler and can someone recommend a better filler? I have been applying the filler and sanding it, mostly, off. I don't appear to be getting anyplace. | | | | Joined: Feb 2002 Posts: 12,029 Cruising in the Passing Lane | Cruising in the Passing Lane Joined: Feb 2002 Posts: 12,029 | what exactly is the "fiberglass filler" you're using? what kind of damage are you trying to fix? a little more detail and someone may be able to help - mostly with a 'Bondo' type of material you will sand most of it off, it's really meant for minor imperfections like light rust pitting or scratches, rather than real dents and wrinkles

You have to knock the metal back to nearly there. I prefer the short strand fiberglass (kitty hair) over bondo for filling anything that is just a little less than perfect. It is much harder than bondo - doesn't marr or dent like bondo can. Can be built up a little thicker than bondo.
No excuse for not doing bodywork though. Either have to bump it with a hammer and dolly or cut it out and patch new in. At least not on a project that you want to be proud of. Once you get the kitty hair on, smooth, and right - then glaze over with the bondo to fill in the gaps. As was mentioned before, most of it will (or at least should) get sanded off anyway. Very few filler jobs are "one and done" and require multiple passes at apply, file, sand, repeat. And when you think it looks and feels right, lay some filler primer over the top, and be prepared to start the process over at least once more.
Also make sure that you are feathering out 4x to 5x the damaged area with the filler and using a long flexible board over the damaged area, rather than simply filling the dent/hole/patch. You will need to work on it to get it to blend into the entire panel.

I meaning Efflurage while developing the sensitivity to tell the difference between 1200 and 1500 grit sand paper by starting with 80 and 150 grit and working your way up.... Using a 'line' like this may get your girlfriend/wife to be more open to helping out! Practicing Massage is ALL it is! Yeah... THAT'S my story and I'm stickin to it!

Go for it, but I question the use of "fiberglass" repairs under any circumstance. Fiberglass has no place on a all metal body. | | | | Joined: Dec 2012 Posts: 27 New Guy | New Guy Joined: Dec 2012 Posts: 27 | If I understand the question correctly, plastic filler can be applied over polyester or epoxy resins. Fiberglass has no place on a all metal body. wrong fiberglass filler like duraglass is used over welds as its waterproof & bondo is not water proof i would recomend evercoat's rage gold filler to use over the duraglass or to fill miner small imperfections the rage is expencive but works eassyly & doesent ruin your sandpaper like cheap bondo- filler
just sand it a little more 47 1st series pu 4x4
