I've a 66 GMC Burbled with 3 on the tree. Started looking into sealing factory 3 speed with an automatic. Any one have any suggestions / recommendations or the best auto to put in? A better choice is a later model 4 or 5 speed manual. If you are retaining the stock rear end, an o-drive trans is preferable manual or automatic to give you better highway cruiseing.

Nothing wrong with these transmissions; cheap and plentiful I imagine.
They put them behind 6s and 8s alike back in the day.
Loads of after market parts, upgrades, and support.

and maybe replace the rear end with lower gear ratio for highway speeds ( 60 - 75 ). Didn't want to get into a lot of work with the swap if I could get away from it. Would I need to find a powerglide out of a truck or would a car t-mission work? It may be the same as BOP. You may need an adaptor for late type transmissions. You will also need to modify the drive shaft, fabricate some sort of auto shifter, & install an oil cooler.
