I picked up a magnetic pickup style tach - such a deal!!! Now my problem is that it's calibrated for 4 or 8 cylinders and I have a V6 305. There is a calibration sticker on it, and using the ratios listed, I think it will display correctly if I get the pickup end of things correct. On the sticker it says for 8 cylinders and mag pickup "180T", which I interepted as putting two pickups 180 degrees apart? Under 4 cylinders it says "90T", so I'm thinking that for a 6 cylinder could I put 3 pickups 120 degrees apart??? Can I get the magnetic pickup at NAPA??? Should I just chuck this sucker in the dumpster and start over??

Showing my ignorance here, but I never heard of a magnetic tach pick up. the only tachs I have ever seen were mechanical (early vettes) or electronic (negative side of ignition coil).

Just where are you supposed to place the sensors? By Flywheel? Vib Damper?

Curly....I'm with you. At any rate, I think the "mag pickup" type would work with a pickup (coil) and several magnets placed at increments that would corellate to degrees of crankshaft rotation. I'm gunna call the company that made the sucker and find out.
