hey all on my 52 when I go to start the ol'girl I have to move the starter pedal up & down with my foot in order for it to engage is there an adjustment somewhere that I can eliminate this problem thanks

Sounds like the switch on top of the starter is starting to get a littl erough on the internal contacts.(or the linkage bolts for the starter pedal are loose)

well it's rainin here like a cow... so not much I can do need to do some spring tune up on was goin to the garage for beatin & bangin guess I'll wait till sun shines again b4 I can check thanks

Is there a return spring on the linkage above the starter (to return the foot pedal to the "up/non-engaged" position)?

I'll post a picture if you have no spring.

Mechainiac is mostly likely right - you need a new Starter Switch (solenoid).

We're just guessin' here, because we're going on your description, but most likely, the fellers have it pretty much right. It is likely the starting contactor switch. Don't be calling it a solenoid--that is a very specific kind of electrically driven contactor switch.

The starting contactor switch is easy to replace and you will know immediately if that was the solution. If you replace the switch and the ol' girl still won't crank when you mash the starter pedal, then you got some wires in the starter motor that are not right--commutator, brushes, field wiring--work for a professional.

The switch is still available at Napa and costs around $12.00.
Do you have a helper who can push on the pedal and you can watch to see how well the contact lever enguages the button on the switch?

ok guys the rain has quit for awhile so today maybe the day I can take her to the garage my helper is too small to reach the pedal so maybe mawmaw can come help for a few minutes.so of you know how she feels about my truck but I will keep ya posted thanks

hey good news! I removed the switch on the starter ,looked under the switch found a small strip of copper under the button it was gone where it makes contact w/the starter and battery wire.I took a piece of copper the size of a (penny) cut & snip and....IT'S ALIVE!!!!

That will get you by for a while until it moves a little bit and grounds out letting the smoke out of the wiring and battery cables
Is the copper strip piece that is missing the part on the starter or on the switch?
