I am nearly ready to put my 53 3100 back on the road. I have installed a 235 but kept the original transmission and torque tube rear end. I think it has a 4.11 gear. I have looked at the Patrick's 3.55 conversion but my concern is that I live in the hills of Tennessee. I don't want to spend all of my time downshifting into second to go up a hill. Is there another ring gear and pinion that will fit into a torque tube rear end that has a ratio of 3.73 or so?? Or any ratio between 3.55 and 4.11?
Thanks, Richard

What year 235?

The 3.90:1 ring and pinion (and the necessary carrier) from a 1954 1/2 ton truck might fit/work. If someone confirms this and you want a set, post a Want Ad in the Swap Meet, or send me a Private Message for information about a you-pay-shipping Christmas/etc present.

The 1954 3.9 would be a great option, and yes you would need to get the 3.9 ring gear carrier with it.
This will all fit right in your torque tube.
If you come up with a complete torque tube with 3.9 gears, the whole assembly will also fit.

The 3.90 won't gain you much. Thev 3.55 gears will be your best bet if you plan on spending any time on the highway. The 235 will pull it good.

They say money can't buy happiness. It can buy old Chevy trucks though. Same thing.
