I'm a bit confused by the replacement mirrors that I received from LMC - both in design & placement.

The "right" or passenger side (#4) has a curved arm, and that seems to make sense.

The "left" or passenger side (#3) has a fairly straight arm. However, when I try to mount it on the driver's side. the arm curves away from the driver. Is this correct?

Also, do both mirrors mount on the front edge of the door - somewhat under the vent window?

The mirrors mount on the cowl, forward of the doors. Look under the dash. There is a reinforcement piece with holes in it. Drill through those holes to the outside.

LMC is incorrect in its listing of the same left-side mirror-arm for 47-55. There were two different arms, due to the addition of a driver's side (left side) vent window added in 1951.

Here are photos of the different styles of miror arms (from Classic Parts). Originally, they were all painted lack - ignore the chromed finish - just look at the bolt/screw orientation to the arm.

47-55 right side mirror arm (passenger side)

47-50 left side mirror arm (driver side)

51-55 miror arm (driver side)

LMC also appears to show the larger rectangualr mirrors for 47 to 55, which is incorrect. I actually use them on my 51 but the passenger's side mirror didn't fit on the arm properly. I made an extension to the arm.

Thanks for this info! Unfortunately, I couldn't find reinforcement plates under the cowl of my '50 3100. Is there a way to measure from the outside of the cowl?

Keep looking. the holes might be plugged with bondo. They are there. You have to be a contortionist to see them. A good light helps.

Mine were like that too, but the driver's door would hit the mirror if fully open. I had to bend the stem a tiny bit.
