I'm new to this and have a 54 1/2 ton PU with a 4 speed. I found a third member with 3:55 gears with its torque tube attached for $500 and was wondering if this would bolt in? He thinks its from a 54 but not sure. Thanks.

If it is a factory 3.5 it would be from a passenger car and it will not bolt onto a truck axle housing.
Is the mounting flange round or egg shaped.
Round: truck
Egg shaped: pass

Mt54, are you sure that 3.55 third member is not from a car? I used a 1950 Chevy car rear end with 3.55 gears to convert my '36 Chevy pickup from 4.11 to 3.55 gears. Those 3.55 gears were in 1950-54 powerglide equipped cars.

Where in California are you? I'm in Sonoma County. If you want any information on my 3.55 conversion my email is rwaldbaum at aol dot com.
