I'm taking the 261cu engine out to put it in my 1941 Chevy 1.5 ton. I'm got a new 12 volt Northwestern T-4 wiring harness that will be installed in the 41. Should I use the ignition out of the 61 chevy in the 41 even though I have to have it re-keyed? Or, am I better off buying a new ignition all together? The ignition fits in the dash, I will just need to make a spacer to "clean up" the installation. Any help would be appreciated.

As long as you can make it fit, I don't see a problem. I assume everything is going to 12 volt as well?

Or, you could replace it with a more modern remote spin-on-filter head mounted placed in any convenient location.

From your pix, I can only see the side. But you have a 62 and up hood. Your fender emblem is 62 only. The wrap around windshield makes it 60-63. The 261 was not available in 61 in 1/2 ton. Once you get your 41 all set, I'd concentrate on putting the 62 together. It will be desireable to many. (Not many here....) But the wrap around windshield with newer hood and 4x4 shortbed is rare. Add that it's a '62 in the mix and you'd be hardpressed to find 5 others in the country that aren't pieces of crap. I have located the captains bars and it came stock with the remote oil filter. I'm not gonna try to restore the the 62. 1st, it's in pretty fair shape including the transmission and transfer case,front axle, and locking hubs. The rear axle is missing the differential housing. Hence the reason it was parked. I have a small shop and can only concentrate on on vehicle at a time. So, I will either part out, or sell it in its entirety, (sans the engine). Bill of sale only. The 62 has many problems the worst being trying to register it. It was abandoned 8 or 10 years in a field at a friends house. He (the original owner) has disappeared. I don't want the headache. Besides, the art deco years are my real love. So, I've gonna stick with my original plan to part the truck out and get it out of my shop. I appreciate your input. It seems pretty loose now. Is there a special sealer that is strong enough to hold it in place? This truck is taking up space in my shop and is holding up my progress. Is the GM Muncie SM 420 worth any money? the rear differential blew when the odometer read 60 thousand miles. Also, is the transfer case a south after item? If so, how much are these items worth? Thanx in advance.

A friend gave it to me after it has been sitting on his property for 8 to 10 years. other than the drive train, glass, and some sheet metal, it's intake. However,I just want the engine for my 41. I will be tring to sell the drive train sans the engine on crags list. It sports the SM420 transmission which is consider one of the best four wheel drive transmission ever made. And, the truck was park due to a blown rear differential. So, I'm gonna try to sell it and the transfer case. The rear axxel is intact, but the differential case is blown. Maybe even the front axxcel to include the locking hubs and differential. Or grab a free 235 locally and throw it in to get it going again. Rear diff shouldn't be hard to replace either. Don't waste money on it trying to make it more sellable. The glass is all good with the exception of slight delamination on the bottom 1/4 inch of the windshield. The bed is a mess. But, the transfer case, front axle with locking hubs, and cab interior is fairly sound. But, be warned, regestration may be an issue. The truck sat for 10 years and I don't know who the original owner is. Hence the reason I planned to "part" it out. I just want this truck out of my shop so I can start working on my 41. Marc | | |
