I'm trying to verify what size my motor is on my 51 gmc 400 series truck. The serial number is hc453. I think I read there is a number stamped on head by distributor somewhere. Anybody know if this is true ? On first pass thru I couldn't locate.

Hy Red63, on the GMC engine the engine serial number is stamped into a flat pad right behind the distributor, on the American GMC engine serial numbers the first three digits are the cubic inch displacement of the engine, (example 248,270, 302), hope that helps.
