Hey, this may be kind of a dumb question, but here goes. I put a different steering wheel on my 53 and have given up on hooking up the horn button as it's from a 47 chevy car with a horn ring, but I have a aftermarket horn button I can put on the column. I unhooked the wire where it enters the steering column and thought maybe the horn would honk when I grounded it, but it needs to have a complete curcuit. But where's the other wire? I'm confused . Do I hook the hot where from the column to my new button and use the othere terminal as a ground? What gives?

To explain myself better, I'm wondering how to complete the connection to my new horn button. I thought the original system grounded the horn rely when the horn button was pushed, but the hot lead into the column doesn't activate the horn when I ground it, so there I am.

There should not be a hot wire in the column. It should be connected to the ground terminal of the horn relay.

Use a screwdriver to ground the relay to the firewall and listen for a click.

Hey, thanks, should have known that. Hooked up my new button to that hot lead from the horn relay and grounded it and now I'm legal with a working horn.
