It was GREAT!! The engine still needs a little tweaking to run smoothly and the brakes need a little more adjustment, but otherwise it was a nice trip around the block.
Still need to finish working on the grill, adjust the fit of the hood a little more and calibrate the speedometer, but we are just about there.
Thanks to everyone who offered advice/tips throughout this restoration. The stovebolt page has been a large part of this process for me. John got me started on this process in late 1996 or early 1997 (the Stovebolt Page was still based in Hawaii) when he recommended I start on an AD pickup. We found our 3/4 ton 55 1st series and away we went. Once we returned from a 3 year stint in Germany the restoration really began. Thanks again to everyone.
P.S. I have promised pictures before, and I will post some through Webshots, but I am a little digitally challenged and will get them posted soon.

1948 3/4-Ton 5-Window Flatbed Chevrolet 34 Years. Now with a '61 261, 848 head, Rochester Monojet carb, SM420 4-speed, 4.10 rear, dual reservoir MC, Bendix up front, 235/85R16 tires, 12-volt w/alternator, electric wipers and a modern radio in the glove box.

I agree that The Stovebolt Page has been a great asset and I am relatively new here. I can relate when I took my 55 First Series out after the body work. I have some mechanical work left but it is a great feeling. I really enjoy the positive feedback from people on the road when I am out in my truck.
