Ive got a 1964 factory 4x4 chevy 3/4ton.
I was wondering if their is another year/model hubs that can directly replace my old worn factory hubs? I dont have the money to buy new ones at 220 for the set and was looking to see if i could get some cheap used ones from somewhere. Plus i just need to replace one side and and can only find them in sets of two.

Hi,

Just go to your local wrecking yard with a sample or spline count of your hubs, you will find a lot if interchanability with hubs,

I know it was rather sacrilegious but put hubs off of a mid 1980s Ford on a 1966 GMC,

Frank

Does anyone know if a late 60s half ton K10 hubs work in place of the 1964 3/4 hubs?

How can you determine if your axle is a Dana?

Does it have a closed knuckle at the front backing plates and six lug axles? Looks like a ball-and-socket, hip joint.

Do you still have those used hubs? I have a '66 K10 (daily driver/hunting truck) and can't find good used hubs that will fit it properly, due to that funky hub-tube used on the older chevys. junkyards here in Western Montana don't have anything left.

You are going to need 19 spline hubs for it. I may have an extra set of used ones here if you still have problems with yours. What is wrong with the ones on it now? Are they the older spicer style with the flat blade that sticks out?

I had one original hub on there, and one replacement hub, Select-o-matic i think. They didn't work, worn out, so i had a friend replace them. All he could find was old Warn hubs, they mounted on the axle but he said they didn't fit right, that the splines were not fully engaged by the hub. Anyway, they're on there and work ok, but if the splines aren't fully engaged by the hubs i could spin off the splines on the end of the axle under difficult 4x4 conditions. SO, i need to swap them out for the correct model. I'd prefer original stock (i think that's the Spicer w/ flat blade knob), but the correct Warns would be good too.

Back at it trying still trying to find some hubs, a guy around me is selling a set of warn pn 9790 that according to the warn website would fit a 3/4ton chevy 77-87 and have a 19spline count. Im just wondering if they would fit my stock 64 3/4ton 4x4 front axle?

Also is it easy to just rebuild the hubs that are on there now? im not sure what is wrong with them because if havent had a chance to pull them off. I thought i read somewhere that you may be able to get them to work again if you regrease them? what are the steps to that?

Check out the milemarker and Warn websites, they still make them for our trucks.

Forgot to add the later warn hubs that you are looking at won't work. Same spline, but I think they were an internal hub rather than a flange mount hub like ours are. there are also rebuild kits for some of the hubs still offered by the manufactures.

Some of the 70's 3/4ton 4x4s used the Dana 44HD which had the external 6 bolt mounting pattern. I am not for sure on the spline count though. The 77=87 hubs would be for the 10bolt with internal mounting. I have some of the original spicer hubs and some warn hubs for 3/4 ton 4x4s if your looking for those. Lyle

Ok ok so you will have to forgive me this whole time ive been barking up the wrong tree! The previous owner told me the truck was a 3/4ton 1964 and he was the one who did the swap, so i believed him. But now looking at it "i dont have the axle number" but the axle is 6lug which makes me think its a K10.

I looked at your photos in your photobucket and it is definitely a K10 1/2 ton front axle with internal mount hubs. I couldn't tell the exact style of hubs you have. If you email a close up I will let you know.
